Scotsman writer, Massie, nominated for scathing book criticism award

A REGULAR writer on The Scotsman has been named among the most scathing book critics.

Allan Massie has been shortlisted in this year’s ‘Hatchett Job of the Year Award’, by the website, The Omnivore, which makes the award for the “angriest, funniest, most trenchant book review of the past twelve months”, with the aim of “[raising] the profile of professional critics and to promote integrity and wit in literary journalism”.

Massie’s nomination is for his review of Craig Raine’s The Divine Comedy.

Says The Scotsman: “The review, published in The Scotsman’s books section, will be competing for the honour with the likes of the New York Times, Washington Post, New Statesman and Guardian.”
