Regional Press Awards competition issues call for entries

AN ANNUAL competition celebrating the best of the UK’s local and regional Press is today announcing it is about to accept entries.

And, for the first time, this year’s Regional Press Awards, run by the Society of Editors, will be accepting entries from online sources. The competition is being run in conjunction with the Newspaper Society.

In a Society of Editors media release, executive director, Bob Satchwell, says: “We are glad to help celebrate the quality of the journalism that serves local and regional communities across the UK so well. The British local and regional Press is adapting to new opportunities and challenges and remains the best in the world.”

The statement also quotes Lynne Anderson, communications and marketing director of the Newspaper Society, as saying: “The regional Press is the most trusted of all media. In print and online, it is the second biggest investor, after the national Press, on news in the UK. These awards give us an opportunity to pay tribute to the industry’s unique editorial content and journalistic excellence.”

Registration for the awards is now open – here – and entries will be taken from Monday. The deadline is March 4. The awards ceremony is in London, on May 17.
