CMYK makes first foray into consumer magazines market with purchase of familiar title

AN Edinburgh-based contract magazine company has made its first foray into consumer magazine publishing by purchasing a title it already knows well – as its designer.

It follows the purchase of Scotland Outdoors magazine by CMYK Design.

The five year-old title and associated website www.scotoutdoors.com has been bought from Big Bend Publishing, based in Peebles. The price tag has not been made public.

CMYK has designed the magazine since its launch.

The 68pp title is quarterly and is priced £3.80. Five thousand copies are distributed to subscribers and targeted retail and hotel stockists.

In a CMYK media release, owner, Neil Braidwood, is quoted, as saying: “Scotland Outdoors is a fantastic magazine, and we are proud to have designed it since its inception.

“Owning the title takes our involvement to a new level and we will invest the time and resources needed to build on its remarkable success.

“We’ll go the extra mile to make our magazine even more beautiful, exciting and inspirational – just like Scotland’s landscape. We intend to expand distribution, bringing the magazine to a new, wider audience.”

Richard Rowe, who founded the title and will continue as a consultant, is also quoted, as saying: “The team at CMYK has been with us from the beginning and has been as much a part of the magazine as our writers and photographers.

“Experienced publishers as well as accomplished designers, they know this magazine inside out, and are the perfect people to take it forward. Scotland Outdoors is in very safe hands.”

CMYK publishes the travel and leisure magazine, aurora, as well as staff and professional titles for clients in the medical, legal and public sectors.
