Media outlets urged to adopt zero tolerance policy against abuse of reporters

MEDIA organisations are being urged to adopt a zero tolerance policy against the abuse of its reporters from football fans.

The call is being made today by Angela Haggerty on the website The Drum, who says she has been on the receiving end of “sustained abuse and intimidation” since last year editing a book about the financial problems that affected Rangers FC.

Her appeal follow reports BBC Scotland journalist, Jim Spence, has contacted police after allegedly being verbally abused, while walking, with his wife, in Dundee.

Says The Scotsman, the BBC received over 400 complaints following remarks he made about the status of the club.
