A NOVEL inspired by the role played by volunteer soldiers barely five foot tall, during the First World War, has been penned by a former supplements editor at The Scotsman, long-time turned media consultant.
Ken Houston is the author of Wee Fellas, which is the subject of a lengthy preview in the Daily Record newspaper, which begins with the standfirst: “A new novel reveals how thousands of volunteers who were told they were too small to fight in World War I flocked to the front line and earned a reputation for their tenacity.”
The novel is written under the pseudonym, Richard Maitland. It is Houston’s debut novel and will be available in paperback at the end of the month. It is already available as a Kindle edition.
Houston left The Scotsman 13 years ago to set up Ken Houston Media Services. After 20 years at the paper, he was latterly supplements editor and award-winning personal finance editor.
