The Media in Figures: Circulations in Scotland of national newspapers

THE year-on-year circulation in Scotland of The Times newspaper has increased, according to the latest official figures.

Says newspapers auditing body, ABC, the average circulation in Scotland of the paper during last month was 18,124 – up 2.1 per cent on the average of 17,759 during February last year.

The paper was the only national daily or Sunday newspaper to experience a year-on-year increase between February last year and last month.

In summary, ABC figures read, as follows:

Daily Mirror – 12.6 per cent drop = from 17,274 on average during February last year, to 15,093 last month;

Daily Record – 10.6 per cent drop = from 216,029 on average during February last year, to 193,093 last month;

Daily Star of Scotland – 14.5 per cent drop = 45,181 to 38,625;

The Scottish Sun – 8.8 per cent drop = 248,035 to 226,195;

Scottish Daily Express – 12.8 per cent drop = 51,496 to 44,895;

Scottish Daily Mail – 2.8 per cent drop = 92,137 to 89,526;

Daily Telegraph – 11.3 per cent drop = 17,820 to 15,805;

Financial Times – 9.9 per cent drop = 2,360 to 2,126;

The Guardian – 12.9 per cent drop = 10,422 to 9,078;

i – 11.5 per cent drop = 19,320 to 17,106;

Independent – 7.3 per cent drop = 2,622 to 2,431; and

The Times – 2.1 per cent up = 17,759 to 18,124.

Meanwhile, the Sunday titles’ sales figures in Scotland were as follows:

Daily Star of Scotland – Sunday – 16.1 per cent down = 24,280 to 20,365;

The Scottish Sun – Sunday – 11.1 per cent down = 177,745 to 158,062;

Sunday Mail – 12.8 per cent down = 243,694 to 212,526;

Sunday Mirror – 6.9 per cent down = 16,471 to 15,340;

The People – 9.8 per cent down = 9,218 to 8,316;

Scottish Mail on Sunday – seven per cent down = 82,795 to 77,051;

Scottish Sunday Express – 13 per cent down = 29,454 to 25,622;

The Sunday Post – 12.3 per cent down = 156,605 to 137,279;

Independent on Sunday – 6.6 per cent down = 4,878 to 4,554;

The Observer – 12.4 per cent down = 14,209 to 12,445;

Sunday Telegraph – 12.1 per cent down = 15,696 to 13,799; and

Sunday Times – 6.1 per cent down = 45,243 to 42,501.
