Your Noon Briefing: Radio to celebrate Isle of Skye, Andy Coulson, etc

RADIO station, BBC Radio nan Gàidheal, is to next week celebrate the Isle of Skye.

Starting Tuesday, the Gaelic language station will begin marking the 150th anniversary of the Glasgow Skye Association – described here as ‘the big-city home-from-home’.

Says an announcement on behalf of the GSA: “BBC Radio nan Gàidheal will be devoting their primetime hours to the Isle of Skye throughout the day with flagship programmes, ‘Prògram Choinnich’, ‘Mire ri Mòir’, ‘Feasgar’ and ‘Caithream Ciùil’ – all devoted to the music and history of the Isle of Skye and her city ‘embassy’, the ‘Glasgow Skye’, as the association is affectionately known.

“On Friday 24th, Na Dùrachdan will have a Skye flavour – for one night only!”

BEGINS the BBC, here: “The former editor of the News of the World, Andy Coulson, will stand trial in Scotland on a charge of perjury next month.

“The 47 year-old’s trial had been due to begin at the High Court in Edinburgh next week.

“However, at a preliminary hearing a judge fixed a new date of 11 May.

“The charge relates to the trial of socialist politician Tommy Sheridan and his wife Gail at the High Court in Glasgow in December 2010.”

Libby Brooks, The Guardian’s Scotland correspondent, reports the story, here.
