Freelance contributors to The Herald group of newspapers are being offered the chance to tap into the expertise of an intellectual property lawyer, before agreeing to new terms and conditions - including copyright - being offered to them by the group.
The event, at a venue to be confirmed in Glasgow, is being organised for Wednesday evening by the National Union of Journalists.
It follows new terms and conditions being offered by the group - comprising The Herald, the Sunday Herald and Evening Times - to freelancers, with agreement a prerequisite for future commissions. Among the minimum fees being offered are £30 for a sports match report and £115 for a reporting or sub-editing shift.
Also attending will be NUJ officials, with advice on how to best react to what is being offered. The contract - reported here by allmediascotland - initially prompted the NUJ to issue a suggested letter of response (here).
