Scottish newspapers are upping a campaign to convince MSPs to jettison a proposal by the Scottish Government to allow local authorities the discretion to switch their public notices from the press to the internet, to save councils money but potentially threatening the financial viability of some, mainly local, newspaper titles - as well as depriving some people access to vital information.

Today's Scotsman newspaper, for instance, follows yesterday's edition of sister title, Scotland on Sunday, with a full page open letter, being reproduced in the Edinburgh Evening News.

Consultation on the proposal ends on Friday, by which time it is expected many local newspapers will be following suit. 

Ten days ago, MSPs voted 76-48 for a motion condemning the proposal.
