Allan Robb Dies, Aged 49

A former presenter on BBC Radio 5 live - Scot, Allan Robb - has died, aged 49. He had been battling multiple sclerosis.

Once a journalist on BBC Scotland news flagship, Reporting Scotland, he began his career with Aberdeen-based radio station, Northsound.

In a BBC report, the head of news and current affairs at BBC Scotland, Atholl Duncan, is quoted, saying he would be "fondly remembered by his many colleagues on Reporting Scotland as an extremely professional presenter and a highly skilled and tenacious journalist".

With 5 live, he presented, for several years, the midday news.

Fellow Scots broadcaster, Nicky Campbell, who co-presents the BBC Radio 5 live breakfast show, is reported saying it is one of the saddest days of his life. The pair had been friends since childhood.

Allan was my cousin. His father, Ronald, was my Father's brother. I knew Allan from his birth onwards-I am 13 years older and his death is a real blow. He was a great guy, intelligent, witty and wise.God bless him.

This is indeed sad news, though it is important for responsible media coverage not to portray multiple sclerosis as a terminal illness. People do not die due to MS but a tiny percentage of sufferers die as a result of complications arising as a result of the condition. I dont know the exact circumstances surrounding his death but it sounds like he may have fallen into this category. I too have MS and was commissioned last year to write an 'Essential Guide' to the condition which is easy to read and dispels many myths about MS. The feedback so far indicates it is living up to it's aims. See www.leoniemartin.co.uk or www.need2knowbooks.co.uk if you would like to find out more.
