STV/YouTube Collaboration Launches Today

A content deal agreed between STV and YouTube, which will see the Scottish broadcaster make at least 2500 hours of content available for viewing via the video-sharing website, has officially launched today.

Scottish Television’s programming, both new and from its extensive archive, can now be accessed free of charge and on demand through the ‘TV Shows’ section of the YouTube website as well as on its own dedicated ‘STV Player’ channel.

The launch follows an announcement in June this year – reported by allmediascotland – that the Glasgow-based broadcaster would follow in the footsteps of Channel 4 and Five in making its catch-up service available via the popular video site.

Says Alistair Brown, head of digital at STV: “I’m delighted that our channel is now fully up and running on YouTube, making a vast amount of digitised, rich STV content available to a wide audience across the UK and beyond.

“We have a vast amount of programming, including the best of the new material and gems from the extensive STV archive, and hope to reach new STV viewers via this channel.

“We’re also commissioning new material specifically for distribution via the STV Player service on YouTube and our other online platforms.”
