Daily Record scores in social networks links study

AN average 82,000 links to stories on the website of the Daily Record newspaper – and sister title, the Sunday Mail – appear each week in social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.

Says a study published by search analytics company, Searchmetrics, while Dailymail.co.uk and Guardian.co.uk are most visible on social networks, the dailyrecord was also an impressive performer.

Also included in the study were the links involving stories on the website of The Herald – and sister titles, the Sunday Herald and the Evening Times. The average for heraldscotland.com was 13,000.

Says Dr Horst Joepen, chief executive of Searchmetrics: “Social news – that is news and articles that are shared or recommended by your friends and followers on social sites – is potentially an important source of traffic for online news sites.”

The Searchmetrics study monitored links from 12 newspaper websites which were shared on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, StumbleUpon, Delicious and Google+ over a period of ten weeks, upto towards the end of last month.
