Scotcampus to Celebrate Tenth Birthday

The free, Scotland-wide newspaper for students, Scotcampus, is tomorrow celebrating its tenth birthday.

The paper - available at all major universities and colleges throughout Scotland - is published six times a year, comprising some 116 pages per edition.

Scotcampus was founded in Glasgow by Graeme Barratt and Anna Purdie.

Once restricted to a few colleges, universities and bars in the city, the A5-sized title now has over 400 distribution points across Scotland.

Says editor, Chris Hammond: “Although I’ve not been with Scotcampus for the full decade I still feel like our tenth anniversary edition is a bit of an occasion. Since I started out in journalism I’ve written for a number of publications which no longer exist, so to last and actually thrive in such a tough market for a decade is something we’re all pretty proud of. Our last edition has, in terms of revenue, been our best ever so, fingers crossed, it’s a kick-start to another good decade for the magazine.”

Adds Barratt: “As with most publications we’ve had good times and bad over the years but, on reflection, the good definitely outweigh the bad. We’re very appreciative of all the support we’ve had from students, journalists and advertisers - without them we wouldn’t have lasted so long. Hopefully there’s still room to grow the magazine alongside our Freshers’ Festivals which have become an equally important aspect of our business.“
