Berwick Advertiser editor steps down

ONE of Scotland’s longest-serving local newspaper editors is reported to be stepping down.

According to the HoldtheFrontPage website, the editor of the Berwick Advertiser, Janet Male, is leaving the paper after 13 years in charge.

Says the website: “She will be moving from her Edinburgh home to Motherwell but as yet has nothing definite lined up.”

When she took over the editorship, in 1995 from Tony Langmack, she became only the second woman to hold the position.

It is understood she is being succeeded by the deputy editor of the Teesdale Mercury, Stuart Laundy.
