Pay Deals at Scotsman and S&UN
08/04/2008
Journalists at The Scotsman newspaper - and its sister titles, Scotland on Sunday and the Edinburgh Evening News - have voted to accept a pay deal negotiated in recent weeks with owners, Johnston Press.
The vote - by a large majority - was among members of the National Union of Journalists and is for a three per cent pay offer, with around 20 individual members to benefit from salary increases of between five to 9.2 per cent, to iron out perceived anomalies.
Meanwhile, at the Scottish local newspapers group owned by Daily Record publishers, Trinity Mirror, a series of NUJ chapel meetings across central Scotland yesterday accepted a pay deal tied to technology training.
At S&UN there will be, like the Scotsman Publications deal, a core salary increase of three per cent. The agreement is for two years - ie three per cent one year and another three per cent the next. However, trainees will see their pay increase by six per cent during each of the two years, as part of an agreement to produce content for the web as well as newsprint.

- "Pay deal at The Scotsman? Good day to bury bad news methinks, in light of this on the company intranet: FOLLOWING review of the imaging suite operation, a proposal has been
made which places 3 permanent roles at risk of redundancy. Consultation is under way and detailed information has been
communicated to those directly affected and their representatives. Every effort will be made to minimise the impact of these proposals on those affected."
