The ranks of the ‘gardening leave’ squad continue to swell. Joining The Herald’s former chief sportswriter, Graham Spiers, is the Daily Record’s crime correspondent, Richard Elias.

While Spiers awaits his move to the revamped Scottish edition of The Times, Elias is now clicking his heels ahead of switching to Scotland on Sunday.

He only handed in his notice to leave, at the start of last week.
