Song hits right note for satirists

A SATIRICAL song about MSP, Tommy Sheridan, had his press officer so enraptured, the people behind it have been invited to appear on a radio show presented by Sheridan.

The song – to the tune of ‘King of the Swingers’, from the classic, Jungle Book movie – was performed on Monday evening, by Vic Rodrick, former political editor at the Evening Times, and Annie Gunner, who works in the voluntary sector.

The pair were providing the entertainment at a Christmas party being held jointly by the Edinburgh Freelance and District branches of the National Union of Journalists. They were also trying to raise cash, to assist two Glasgow schoolchildren help rebuild a school in the Himalayas.

And in the audience was Sheridan’s press officer, Hugh Kerr. He liked the song so much, he’s invited the pair to appear on Sheridan’s new radio show, on talk107 – which serves Edinburgh, Fife and the Lothians.

Sixteen year-old Hannah McManus and Kate Forsyth, both pupils at Glasgow’s Hillhead High School, have been chosen to take part in a Fulcrum Challenge project next summer.

It will involve travelling to a remote area of the Indian Himalayas – a three-day trek from the nearest road.
