Best of refugee and asylum journalism invited to compete for Scottish awards

AN awards competition seeking to encourage “exceptional and fair reporting of asylum in Scotland” is seeking entries.

As part of Scottish Refugee Week, taking place in June, organisations such as Oxfam and the National Union of Journalists, are combining to extend the invitation to Scottish journalists.

There are four categories up for grabs: print national, print local, broadcast media, and photography.

Also taking place during Refugee Week will be judging for the a student journalism award, organised by Amnesty International Scotland and the Sunday Herald newspaper.

The deadline for entries to Refugee Week Scottish Media Awards is the fourth of next month, and – say the organisers – the awards will be judged by a panel including exiled journalists and women and men seeking asylum in Scotland.

Meanwhile, the 30th of this month is the deadline for entries to the student award.
