More Scottish commissions promised for BBC network

A NUMBER of network programme titles are expected to be relaunched in Scotland as part of a drive to increase the level of BBC Scotland’s network production.

The annoucement was made by the Corporation’s director-general, Mark Thompson, as he helped officially open BBC Scotland’s new headquarters at Pacific Quay – along with Prime Minister, Gordon Brown.

Recently, the BBC has been criticised for seriously under-commissionning, for its UK-wide network, programmes from Scotland: circa three per cent, when the population of Scotland comprises about nine per cent of the UK’s.

The outcry was one of the reasons why First Minister, Alex Salmond, recently set up a commission to look into the future of Scottish broadcasting.
