Entries invited by international journalism Awards

JOURNALISTS specialising in international news are being invited to enter a competition comprising two prizes of $5,000 each.

In memory of a freelance journalist who was killed eight years ago in a military ambush, while on assignment, for Reuters, in Sierra Leone, the Kurt Schork Awards, say the organisers, “celebrate the best in freelance print journalism and local reporters who show great courage and commitment to reporting on controversial issues”.

While one of the prizes is reserved for a local reporter covering local stories in a developing country or ‘nation in transition’, the other is for a freelance journalist covering international news.

Add the organisers: “The stories can focus on conflict, human-rights concerns, cross-border issues, or any other issue of controversy in a particular country or region.”
