Those April Fools…

NOT all newspapers ran an April Fools’ joke yesterday, but among those to take Spike’s fancy was The Scotsman’s Forth Rail Loop or ‘F-Rail Loop’ tale – about an extension to the Edinburgh tram system to include Hibernian Football Club’s Easter Road stadium (with the trams appropriately painted in the club’s colours of green and white).

And then there was The Scottish Sun’s claim that former Atomic Kitten singer, Kerry Katona, would be leading the Icelandic national anthem ahead of last night’s Scotland v Iceland World Cup qualifying football match, on account of having appeared in TV ads for Iceland frozen food retailer.

But perhaps the best? A tale in Border Telegraph that local councillors had approved a Border-wide flag that seemed to be wholly comprising themes associated with the town of Hawick, to the exclusion and anger of neighbouring towns such as Galashiels, Kelso, Melrose, Jedburgh and Selkirk.

And why does Spike in particular like? Because it’s understood the local council offices then received calls from at least one press agency and a Sunday newspaper seeking to find out more.
