Headline of the month: take a peek

THURSDAY’S Metro newspaper carried, on its page three, the tale of a swimmer suffering the embarrassment of her one-piece swimsuit beginning to come apart, along the seam of its back.

allmediascotland.com liked the headline: ‘The butt-erfly stroke’, but has yet to find out who penned it.

Talking of the Metro, this is maybe not a realistic contender for the allmediascotland.com July ‘Headline of the month’ competition. But who could resist the temptation of wanting to find out more, when presented with: ‘Wrestling midgets are killed by fake hookers’?

The first line of the story – published on Friday – was equally irresistable: “The world of Mexican midget wrestling is in mourning after two of its most famous stars were apparently poisoned by fake prostitutes.”

‘Headline of the month’ was begun last month by the site, in association with Whyte & Mackay. The June winner has still to be announced. Maybe even tomorrow.

Up for grabs each month are bottles of Whyte & Mackay Special whisky – for both the author of the ‘best’ headline and the person who has nominated it, with the monthly winners entered in a Headline of the Year competition where two bottles, each worth an estimated £150, of Whyte & Mackay 30 year-old are the prizes.

Eligible are headlines in Scottish newspapers (national and local), plus Scottish magazines and online.
