-  Pop legend, Les McKeown, puts on a show for guests at social care charity’s inaugural end-of-summer fundraiser  -

ONE of Scotland’s largest social care charities, Quarriers, said ‘Bye Bye Baby’ to summer and kicked off autumn with a bang, as Les McKeown and his Bay City Rollers stole the show at the charity’s end-of-summer barbeque.

The event saw Les and the band take time out of their action-packed UK tour to perform at Mar Hall in Bishopton to help raise money for Quarriers services.

The band rolled back the years, playing some of their biggest hits – including ‘Bye Bye Baby’, ‘I Only Want To Be With You’ and ‘Summer Love Sensation’ – to the delight of guests.

Fans travelled from across Scotland and beyond for the event, with one family travelling from Dallas, Texas, in the United States.

Yoshiko Malouf, originally from Japan, attended the barbeque with her husband, Paul, and daughter, Chelsea, who is attending the University of St Andrews.

Remembering the Rollers’ playing in Japan when she was a teenager, Yoshiko fulfilled a lifelong dream in meeting frontman, Les.

She said: “When I was 13 years-old, the Bay City Rollers came to Japan for the first time and everyone in Japan got crazy about them, including me! Even now, I listen to their songs every day in my car and sing along with my children. Of course, I went to many of their concerts in Japan but it was really hard work to get a ticket and when you did, it was always at the back.

“However, at this concert my dream finally came true as I got to see Les perform my favourite songs right in front of me and I even got to meet him and give him a hug!

“It was an absolutely fantastic night and I am very thankful to Quarriers and the team for putting on a great show.”

Alice Drife, Quarriers chief executive, said: “It was a brilliant evening and the guests thoroughly enjoyed Les’ and the band’s performance.”

The event was sponsored by national maritime, oil and gas training providers, Stream Marine Training, as part of their Charity of the Year support for Quarriers. The company has shown support for the charity’s Coaching for Life scheme through a number of training and career workshops for young people.
