Media Job: Assistant news editor, The Courier

CLOSING DATE: November 18, 2016

Assistant news editor

Dundee

Ref: VAC314

A GREAT opportunity has arisen to work at the very heart of one of the UK’s most successful daily newspapers.

The UK’s regional newspaper of the year is on the hunt for an assistant news editor.

Based at The Courier’s HQ in Dundee, you will be part of the senior team putting together one of Scotland’s most successful daily newspapers. You will also play a key role in the development of the online brand.

The Courier is read by more than 150,000 people every day and produces a website which attracts almost one million people a month. You will play a key role in building on that success to ensure we remain at the forefront of the industry.

We need a confident, ambitious individual with a proven track record of working accurately and creatively to tight deadlines. Juggling several complex tasks at once will need to be second nature.

You will also need to be comfortable both taking instruction and giving it out. Directing reporting staff is a key part of the role and you should be capable of giving clear and confident direction.

You must be able to spot a story a mile off – and know how to treat a line to get the best out of it.

The successful candidate will be expected to use social media to promote our content and source stories. Previous journalistic experience is a must and previous newsdesk experience would be a distinct advantage, as would in depth knowledge of the Tayside and Fife area.

Key requirements include:

* Up-to-date knowledge of newspaper law and IPSO regulations; and

* Outstanding written English and communication skills.
