Media Release: Deputy principal to give talk on the future of universities

RZSS lecture - 29 Oct 2013

THE deputy principal of the University of the Highlands and Islands will give a free, public lecture in Inverness next month.

Professor Crichton Lang, who trained and worked as a vet before moving to a full-time career in academia, will draw parallels between the development of universities and the evolution of animal life.

He explains: “Just as the evolution of animals and their anatomical form is influenced by genes and the environment, so the development of universities is influenced by the regulatory frameworks and various ‘environments’ they operate in.

“In this lecture, I will attempt to bring these apparently separate areas together, with reflections on evolution, biology and regulation of animal form which may open up questions about current and future development of universities.”

Professor Crichton Lang will present his inaugural professorial lecture, ‘The front leg of a dinosaur: form and function in biology and in the university sector’, from 5.30pm to 7pm on Wednesday 5 April at Inverness College UHI.

Attendees may also be able to join the talk via video conference.
