A TRADITIONAL Scots steelworks is in the frame for increased orders after coming up with a framing system that cuts building time and costs.
Already this year, Cairnhill Structures from Coatbridge in Lanarkshire, has landed contracts worth over £2.5m for its Cairnframe system of light-gauge steel panels.
MD, Bill Petrie, said: “The construction industry is moving more and more to using pre-manufactured components, and our expertise in producing a wide range of steel products means we are ideally placed to meet that demand.
“We provide the panels as part of a turnkey solution that often includes all the major steel components in buildings like hotels, care homes and student accommodation.”
Cairnhill is working for the main contractors Grahams on the new 336 bed student residences for the University of the West of Scotland, in the heart of Paisley.
Cairnhill’s £1.4m package includes providing the hot rolled podium steelwork, the stairs, concrete deck, slab, cassette floors and 5 floors of panels all constructed in the firm’s base in the former Sun Steel Works at Coatbridge.
The company is also providing a £1.2m paneling solution to Ogilvies of Stirling who are building a new Premier Inn for Aberdeen based Ardmuir Developments, on the site of a former Bingo Hall in Huntley Street Inverness.
Mr Petrie added: “The bulk of our orders still come from traditional steel customers, but in these hard economic times, even steel manufacturers have to be fleet of foot and come up with new services and products”.
