Media Release: Downhole Chinese factory due to open in autumn

WORK is progressing on  Downhole Products’ new Chinese Partner factory complex at Xian, China.

Begins a spokesperson: “This is being set up in order to increase capacity of new and current Downhole product lines for Asia and Middle East regions.

“The factory covers more than 11,5000 square metres and is ten times the size of Downhole’s HQ at Portlethen.

“Downhole is employing 100 local workers on the project at the moment, an increase from the 20 Chinese it employed a year ago.”

Downhole’s MD, Ian Kirk, visited the factory on a recent trip to Asia which included a visit to Saudi Arabia and the Asian Oil and Gas Show in Malaysia.

He said: “I was in Saudi Arabia to finalise a manufacturing agreement for some of our products. These will be manufactured under licence by a local Saudi company, ENPRO (Energy Projects Support Company) and supported by our Chinese partners.

“This is an ARAMCO driven project that will include local content which is becoming increasingly important in certain parts of the world.

“That was followed by a trip to the Asian Oil and Gas Show (Malaysia) where we sealed a $1million plus order for our equipment.”

Downhole also plans to open a base in Perth, Australia which should be completed later this year.
