Media Movers: Mark Palmer, Donald Martin, etc

IT’S been a while since the last Media Movers feature on allmediascotland – tracking appointments, retirements, etc among Scotland’s busy media community.

Not that allmediascotland has not been noting them in its Noon Briefing.

But here goes, a quick catch-up of some of the more notable moves these last few weeks:

FROM today’s Noon Briefing (here): The Sunday Times Scotland announces has made two new additions to its editorial team. Ahead of the Rugby World Cup, it has appointed Mark Palmer as a dedicated Scottish rugby correspondent to cover all the action at home and abroad. And it has also hired Michael Glackin as Scottish business correspondent.

FROM a Noon Briefing last week (here): The editor-in-chief of the newspapers portfolio at publishers, DC Thomson – including The Sunday Post – has been named head of publishing for consumer entertainment (CE) at the company.

Donald Martin – who is a former editor of The Herald, the Evening Express, among others – will be taking up his new role in October.

He will be succeeded as Sunday Post editor (and also editor of The Weekly News) by the editor of sister title, the Evening Telegraph, Richard Prest.

And Prest will be succeeded as Evening Telegraph editor by the paper’s deputy editor, Steven Bell.

Adds an announcement – here, issued by DC Thomson: “Neil O’Brien, who has held the position of head of publishing (CE) since 2012, is leaving the company to take up a new post as publisher for a London-based specialist firm.”

FROM a Noon Briefing towards the beginning of the month (here): The news editor at Radio Tay, in Dundee, has been named the new political correspondent for Bauer Media’s radio stations across Scotland.

Alan Smith will deliver political news to Bauer’s audiences across its Forth, Clyde, Tay (one of the Bauer network), West Sound, Northsound, MFR and Borders stations.

FROM a Noon Briefing a few weeks back (here): Iain King has been appointed chief executive at a professional football club. The head of sport at The Scottish Sun was named chief exec at Airdrieonians FC.
