A new film by director, Sam Mendes, is to open this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival.
Away We Go – described as “an off-beat road movie…following an expectant young couple as they travel across America in search of the perfect place to raise their family” – will be screened on June 17. Mendes – director of American Beauty and Road to Perdition – and members of the cast are expected to attend.
He is quoted, saying: “I’m absolutely thrilled that Away We Go will have its international debut at the Edinburgh Film Festival, and especially pleased to be the Opening Night. I was last in Edinburgh in 1987 at the Fringe, and most nights the cast outnumbered the audience. So I’m really looking forward to returning – hopefully to a full house.”
The festival’s full programme is being announced on the sixth of next month, and tickets go on sale two days later.
