A COMMUNITY, not-for-profit radio station launching today has just been told it has been successful in applying for funding from broadcasting regulators, Ofcom.
Bute FM is one of 15 successful applicants to secure finance from the Ofcom Community Radio Fund.
They secured £14,500, for this financial year, for a station manager.
There were 61 applications for the funding and one other Scottish community radio station was also successful: 3TFM – based in Saltcoats and Adrossan, in Ayrshire – won £18,000 for a fundraising officer, which it will share with other Scottish community radio stations.
Bute FM is to serve Rothesay and the Isle of Bute on 96.5FM. Operated by volunteers – in keeping with Ofcom’s community radio ethos – it is set to be launched in front of invited guests at noon.
Its strapline is: ‘In the middle of your dial; in the middle of the Clyde; from the heart of Rothesay; the brand new Brandane sound of Bute FM’.
Meanwhile, a total of £226,540 remains in the Ofcom fund for this financial year, with another round of applications to be invited in October.
