The anchorwoman of Reporting Scotland, BBC TV Scotland’s flagship news programme, Jackie Bird, is in the news herself – by opting for a blonde look.
The Scottish Daily Mail yesterday explained all about Bird’s tonsorial changes by devoting the top half of page 3 to a story and three pictures – illustrating the varying shades of her hair over the years.
The newspaper reported: “Her flame-red hair and porcelain complexion made her one of television’s most recognisable faces. Now (she) has undergone a radical makeover. She has dyed her famous red locks blonde and vowed to play up the stereotype, saying last night: 'Yes, I have gone blonde and I’m looking forward to having fun. The reaction has been great, though my son doesn’t seem to have noticed.'”
Bird, who also writes a newspaper column and comedy scripts for BBC Radio Scotland, won't be too fazed by the tabloid treatment. She cut her journalistic teeth as a hard-news reporter on The Scottish Sun as Jackie McPherson.
