THE owner of Rangers FC – which was earlier this week was placed into administration – has issued a defamation case against BBC Scotland.
It follows the broadcast of a documentary, The Inside Story. It’s being widely reported today that also named in a writ served by solicitors acting for Whyte is one of the interviewees in the programme, which was aired in October.
The documentary made claims about Whyte’s business history.
The Scotsman quotes a spokesperson for My Whyte as saying: “Mr Whyte made it clear when the BBC first aired the documentary that he would take robust action.”
It also quotes a BBC spokesperson saying: “We stand by our journalism, all the allegations made, and we will defend our action vigorously.”
