THE Gaelic language TV channel, BBC ALBA, is to screen live a handful of Scottish Premier League matches as part of a two-year deal.
This season, the digital TV channel has been screening matches on a delayed transmission basis – on Saturday evenings.
And the new deal will continue that arrangement.
However, now also on the bill – for this season and next – will be three live SPL matches, per season, starting with Ross County (managed by Derek Adams, pictured left) versus Inverness on January 2.
In a statement, Neil Doncaster, chief executive of the SPL (pictured, right), is quoted, as saying: “I am delighted to announce a new partnership with BBC ALBA that will for the first time see Clydesdale Bank Premier League matches broadcast live with Gaelic language commentary.
“This new partnership will allow us to reach far and wide into new audiences and communities across Scotland. The SPL already has two live television deals in place with Sky Sports and ESPN, and we look forward to growing our relationship with BBC ALBA to promote Clydesdale Bank Premier League football, and the Gaelic language, even further over the next two seasons.”
