Second Kelly thriller to be turned into TV drama by STV

A PYSCHOLOGICAL thriller is be made by the production arm of Glasgow-based broadcasters, STV, for ITV.

The Burning Air is the third novel by Erin Kelly and the second of her novels to be turned into a TV drama by STV Productions, the first being a two-parter, The Poison Tree, for ITV and broadcast last year.

Says a STV media release: “STV Productions’ drama team has enlisted Simon Burke to develop the novel as a three-part thriller. Burke’s previous television work includes adaptations of the novels Persuasion, Zen and White Teeth.

“Author, Kelly, is currently working on the novelisation of the drama Broadchurch, with the series creator, Chris Chibnall.

“STV Drama is also developing award-winning Australian sitcom, Laid, for ITV2.”

The release quotes Margaret Enefer, head of drama for STV Productions, as saying: “This is a great opportunity to bring another of Erin Kelly’s novel to life with the help of Simon Burke. The Burning Air has received fantastic reviews as a novel and we look forward to translating it into another great piece of television drama. We are also excited to be working with ITV2 and Jonathan Harvey on Laid. STV Productions optioned the rights to the sitcom and these two programmes demonstrate the diverse range of STV Drama projects currently in development.”
