BEGINS the website, radiotoday.co.uk: “Rod Webster, a pioneering Scottish local radio executive who delivered high ratings, major awards and commercial success at a string of stations, has died at the age of 69.

“Rod, who died shortly before Christmas, helped set up Moray Firth Radio and was the founding managing director at Radio Borders. He also served as MD at Northsound and as head of training for Scottish Radio Holdings.”

BEGINS the STV website: “Race marshals, spectators and the media face tighter controls at motor sport rallies in Scotland following a spate of deaths in recent years.

“Three spectators died at the Jim Clark Rally last May and in 2013 a spectator died and a child was injured at the Highland Snowman Rally, prompting a safety review into the sport.”

THE funeral of the sportswriter, Ian Wood – former Scotsman sports editor and famed golf writer – has been set for Monday.

It is taking place at Mortonhall Crematorium, in Edinburgh, at 11am.

THE new Scotland editor of The Times is to take up his post on the 19th of this month.

Les Snowdon leaves the Daily Mail – where he is sports editor – on Friday.

He is, among other things, a former editor of Scotland on Sunday, and is succeeding Angus Macleod, whose death, aged 63, in October was noted, here, on allmediascotland.com.

The website, pressgazette.co.uk, reports (here) that Snowdon’s successor at the Daily Mail is Alex Kay-Jelski.
