BEGINS The Herald: “Live broadcasts of English Premier League games at 3pm on Saturday afternoon must not be shown north of the border for the sake of the Scottish game, an MP is to warn.

“Dunfermline & West Fife MP Thomas Docherty will demand that the media regulator, Ofcom, rule out any proposal to show the matches live in Scotland.”

THE Edinburgh Freelance branch of the National Union of Journalists has elected an almost unchanged line-up of office-bearers from last year.

At its annual general meeting – held last night – the branch did, however, choose Paul Cockburn to take the training brief (succeeding Kay Smith, who has stood down) and Bob Smyth to take welfare (previously vacant).

The office-bearers list now reads: chair: Joyce McMillan, vice-chair: Thom Dibdin, secretary: Mark Fisher; membership secretary: Andy Moore, treasurer: Joyce McMillan, training: Bob Smyth, Edinburgh Trade Union Council rep: Simon Barrow, welfare: Paul Cockburn, student rep: John Hewitt Jones, auditor one: Simon Barrow and auditor two: Rob Edwards.
