BEGINS The Guardian: “The Scottish National party has laid claim in its manifesto to an extra £100m of BBC funding, saying it would reflect ‘more accurately the licence fee revenue raised here in Scotland’.

“The manifesto, launched on Monday, says: ‘This would provide a boost of over £100m, which we believe will provide important new opportunities for production companies and the creative sector in Scotland.’

BEGINS MediaWeek: “Free-to-air commercial TV in Europe is experiencing a decline in adspend with fewer young people tuning in and greater competition from Pay TV broadcasters, according to Enders Analysis.

“Enders Analysis said Italy and Spain ‘have suffered the worst cumulative decline’ in adspend since 2007.

“ITV had the strongest revenues in 2014 at €3.2 billion, a growth of 8.4 per cent. ProSieben, the German channel, saw revenues of €2.9 billion, a growth of 10.4 per cent.”

“Audiences must surely be fed up with the constant repetition, the stage management, the never-ending sound-bites and the inability of every party leader to give a straightforward answer to a simple question.”
