Tributes flood in for Crampsey

TODAY’S newspapers are united in carrying fulsome tributes to Bob Crampsey, the writer and broadcaster, who died yesterday, aged 78, following a long battle against Parkinson’s Disease.

Crampsey brought a powerful intelligence to his football reporting and punditry.

A former Brain of Britain – in 1965 – and Mastermind semi-finalist, he made around 1,000 appearances on the long-running stv show, Scotsport.

He also wrote books on such diverse subjects as Glasgow’s 1938 Empire Exhibition; football manager, Jock Stein; and merchant, Sir Thomas Lipton.
