Journalists being offered insight into making money, online

A SeMINAR designed to help journalists make money from internet is to be held in June. The event, ‘news:rewired – the nouveau niche’, is aimed at journalists covering a specialised beat.

Say the organisers, journalism.co.uk: “The day will offer practical advice and case studies from leading journalists and digital media professionals on building online communities around your content, making money, mobile and creating interactive websites and features.”

The itinerary for the day-long event is as follows:

Session 1 – two streams: Mobile – How can mobile devices be better used for newsgathering and publishing?

Building Online Buzz – How to promote your title’s brand online and how to build buzz around online stories and campaigns.

Session 2 – two streams: User-driven projects – How can you use your audience to produce better reporting and special features? What are the benefits of letting users become part of the editorial process?

Paid-for content – Case studies on subscription services and paid access models that are working for online, specialist publishers and at look at the challenges and successes of making money from digital products.

Session 3 – two streams: Interactives – How can you use your audience to produce better reporting and special features? What are the benefits of letting users become part of the editorial process?

Managing online communities – “If you build it, they will come” doesn’t work online. This session will look at building and managing communities around your content, from blogs and forums, to social media channels, and how best to make use of this specialist audience.

Final panel – a discussion to stir the grey matter on what’s next for niche?

The event is scheduled to take place on June 25 at MSN UK’s offices in London. Tickets cost £80 plus VAT and can be purchased from the following link: http://www.journalism.co.uk/195/
