Buyout Gets Millar the Geeks

An Edinburgh-based online magazine specialising in the reporting of gadgets, gaming and music has been bought by its editor, a year after its launch.

Scot, Ally Millar, who helped launch Geeks.co.uk last July, has led a management buyout of the site from Scots IT and property entrepreneur, Shaf Rasul.

The magazine, which attracts 80,000 unique visitors a month, delivers news and features on the likes of music, gaming and film.

Millar is now set to take the title to London to join up with founder and managing director of digital media agency, 7thingsmedia, Chris Bishop, who is also involved in the buyout.

Says Millar, a graduate of Strathclyde University: “The site benefits from an outstanding domain name and the objective has always been to establish and grow the magazine into the most popular gadget site in the UK.

“A key element of our success throughout the past 12 months has been to provide a platform for everyday gamers and users of gadgets to interact with each other to create fun debate on the gadgets and technology we use every day.”
