Newsagent setting up ‘pop-up shop’, to sell last-ever print edition of The Dandy

A NEWSAGENT believes Scots will be so desperate to get their hands on the last print issue of The Dandy comic – which is bowing out today to be replaced by a digital edition – he is setting up a ‘pop up shop’ to sell it, in one of Scotland’s biggest shopping centres.

Newsagent, Desmond Barr, is today swapping his paper shop in Paisley for the Braehead mall, near Glasgow.

He has also set up a special website, www.lasteverdandy.com, to sell the comic.

Already, 700 orders have been netted after his newspaper delivery team distributed leaflets alerting customers to the historic occasion – which coincides exactly with the comic’s 75th birthday.

He has also received orders from further afield, including expats in Canada and America, following mention of the historic occasion on the shop’s Facebook page.

Says Barr: “I’ve never known anything like it. My staff will be posting the comic out to people all over the country.

“People are buying the comic to send to relatives and friends all over the world and many people are using this last issue of The Dandy as a stocking filler at Christmas.”
