Crowther standing down from STV Local to fight local by-election

THE editor of four local websites run by STV is stepping down – to take part in a local by-election.

Stuart Crowther is editor of STV Local’s websites serving Lossiemouth and neighbouring locations.

The former New Media manager at Hibernian football club is standing for election as a SNP candidate in the Moray ward of Heldon & Laich.

He joined Hibs in six years ago, after 23 years with the Scottish Executive where he had been the IT manager at the Scottish Mental Welfare Commission. He founded the Hibs fans website, Hibs.net, and helped create what is now Hibernian TV.

He told allmediascotland.com: “I ‘retired’ to Lossiemouth three years as was always my intention; my mother originates from the town and while brought up in West Pilton, in Edinburgh, I’d been coming to Moray regularly throughout my life.

“Shortly after arriving in Moray, I took up the role as community editor for STV Local. Originally, it was intended that I edit the STV Lossiemouth site, but when I started in November 2010 it was as full-time, [paid] editor of the Lossiemouth, Elgin and Forres sites. Around eight months, later I also took over the STV Buckie site.”

The by-election is taking place on March 7.
