External communications executive

About the role

BASED within the communications team and reporting to the external communications manager, you will contribute to the management and direction of the communications team, and lead on associated projects.

The role will support the work of SDS by creating a positive image through proactive and reactive press, media and stakeholder relations, including a rapid response to press and media enquiries. A specific focus of this role is in managing reactive press activities with the media – which requires close liaison with senior colleagues within SDS and from partner organisations including the Scottish Government. The role also involves working on high-profile campaigns and supporting marketing and events activity.

This is a permanent role based in Glasgow.

About you

An experienced media and communications professional is required to create and manage high profile media and PR campaigns which support corporate and operational priorities across SDS.

Educated to degree level (SCQF level 10) or with equivalent professional experience in journalism, communications or marketing.

You should have experience of project management; of writing and editing for an array of audiences and of working within a fast paced, demanding and complex media environment. In addition, you will have excellent interpersonal skills and be comfortable working as part of a team. Ideally, you will have social media and content management experience and experience of the public sector.
