DC Thomson Media is a progressive, ambitious and innovative publisher, actively investing resources in people who will deliver high quality and meaningful content across our platforms. And we are now looking for a picture editor to join our AV Team.
Working with both our Aberdeen and Dundee-based news brands, we are seeking someone to work as part of the team to create content which reflects our audience and the values of their communities.
You will be part of a team of picture editors, working collectively to drive the day-to-day running of the picture desk and work closely with content providers to identify and execute work that can visually improve our audience’s overall experience.
This will include collaborating with our live news and mini publishing teams, and both pitching and producing your own, original hero content.
Key responsibilities include:
* Working in collaboration with editorial teams to determine the best use of photographic and video content;
* Work alongside members of the AV Team to produce consistently strong imagery;
* Drive and develop original storytelling from within the department;
* Assign jobs to our team of photographers, ensuring timely delivery and high quality output;
* Be responsible for ensuring that all picture databases are achieved in line with set standards; and
* Assist the group picture editor with day-to-day management of all photographers/videographers.
To be successful you will have an excellent creative eye for visuals and detail, and relevant previous experience working in an office environment.
You will be skilled in image and video software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite), and have a working knowledge of newsrooms including an understanding of Scots Law for journalists and IPSO regulations. You will be able to troubleshoot and make decisions at short notice, and have a collaborative and adaptive approach.
In line with the nature of news, out of hours working will be required on a rotational basis.
This opportunity will be based in either our Aberdeen or Dundee office.
