Media officers – Scottish Fire and Rescue Service

THE Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is looking to recruit two experienced Media Officers (one permanent in Inverness, one temporary contract six months in Edinburgh) used to working in a busy press office/newsroom environment.

Your role will be crucial in protecting and enhancing the reputation of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) through media relations by raising awareness of organisational activities and building relationships through traditional, digital and social media. You should have experience in a similar press office position, working with national and local print and broadcast media, writing for the web and using social media.

With experience in PR or journalism, you should have a good range of media contacts, and be able to show real evidence of media influencing skills. You will be expected to be able to work under pressure, managing competing demands with a calm, steady approach and the ability to prioritise work with limited supervision.

You will need to be a confident communicator both in relation to verbal and written skills; and will be able to deal effectively not only with the media, but with our own senior management team and a range of internal and external stakeholders. As Media Officer, you will regularly deal with sensitive issues and will be expected to adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines and due regard to information management legislation.
