QUARRIERS, one of Scotland’s largest social care charities, is flying the flag for the sector in Scotland in one of the UK’s leading health awards events, after being shortlisted in this year’s nationwide HealthInvestor Awards 2015.

The HealthInvestor Awards, now in their eighth year, promote excellence and recognise innovation in the UK health sector.

Quarriers’ nomination in three categories reinforces the charity’s reputation as a first-rate provider that strives for excellence in the services it delivers.

The charity has been nominated for HealthInvestor Awards in the following categories: ‘Community Support Provider of the Year’, ‘Diagnostics Provider of the Year’ and, with NHS Scotland Health Boards, ‘Public/Private Partnership’ for the services provided at The William Quarrier Scottish Epilepsy Centre in Glasgow.

The Epilepsy Centre’s nominations are particularly encouraging for Quarriers, as the purpose-built, state-of-the-art centre is recognised as the only facility of its kind in Scotland, providing assessment and treatment for adults with epilepsy.

Speaking of the nominations, Alice Drife, CEO for Quarriers, said: “We’re thrilled to be included in this year’s nominations for the HealthInvestor Awards and I’m extremely pleased for the team at the William Quarrier Epilepsy Centre.

“It is recognition of Quarriers’ excellent standard of care to be included in such a strong shortlist and being recognised alongside some of the country’s most established private providers highlights the vital role Quarriers plays in health and social care across the country.”

The charity announced the nominations during a Royal visit from Lord and Lady Hope of Craighead, representing the Queen, to the Epilepsy Centre as part of National Epilepsy Week – an UK-wide awareness initiative which runs this week until 23 May.

As well as kicking off National Epilepsy Week, the visit and HealthInvestor announcement also follow the Epilepsy Centre being recognised by the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) and receiving an EFQM 2* Award.

The award is based on an European model of quality where all systems and processes are reviewed to ensure they are aligned with an organisation’s objectives.

On the service provided at the William Quarrier Epilepsy Centre, Drife added: “The William Quarrier Scottish Epilepsy Centre offers world-leading diagnosis and treatment facilities for people affected by epilepsy and can have a significantly positive impact on the lives of those we support.

“The facility, like all our services, adopts a person-centred approach and the nominations are testament to the hard work of our highly-skilled employees and their dedication to helping people fulfil their potential.”
