Supported by funding from VisitScotland’s Growth Fund and a number of local businesses, each diary focuses on a different aspect of the area and a different target demographic.

The first video targets families looking to visit the area to take part in the range of outdoor activities on offer.

Future videos will focus on food, hospitality, wildlife and more, with the aim of appealing to as wide a range of visitors as possible.

“Through the Outdoor Capital Diaries project we have an unprecedented opportunity to present everything on offer in the area to a worldwide audience,” said Lochaber Chamber of Commerce’s destination manager, Frazer Coupland.

“Each video will reveal more about Lochaber, from its natural beauty and wildlife to its friendly hospitality, fascinating festivals and growing live music scene.”

Alongside the videos, Lochaber Chamber has also launched outdoorcapitaldiaries.com.

This brand new website which will host both the video content and a blog written by award-winning local author and screenwriter, Barry Hutchison, who will be sharing his experiences of the activities on offer across the Outdoor Capital.

The Outdoor Capital Diaries are part of a larger marketing project being managed by Lochaber Chamber of Commerce, which has brought £50,000 of funding to the area to help promote it as a tourist destination across the UK and beyond.

Scott Armstrong, VisitScotland’s regional director for the Highlands, said: “This is a brilliant, innovative way to present Lochaber to an online audience, allowing local businesses to show exactly what the region has to offer.

“We are delighted to have helped Lochaber Chamber of Commerce produce these online diaries through the VisitScotland Growth Fund and I am sure it will encourage even more people to enjoy a fantastic outdoor adventure in Lochaber.”
