Bauer’s ‘key appointment’ strengthens group’s creative and commercial offerings

THE Bauer Media Group has bolstered its UK offering to clients by appointing John-Paul Hughes to the new position of group gead of Creative across its ‘City Network’.

Hughes, who joined the Bauer City Network almost two years ago as head of Creative at Radio Clyde, in Scotland, transitions into his new role in the next month.

He boasts considerable experience in the creative and commercial sector following roles with organisations including GMG Radio (then Real & Smooth Radio Ltd) and Spike Media.

In his new role, Hughes will be responsible for defining and guiding the creative beliefs and strategy of the Bauer City Network, whilst implementing processes and practices to enhance its creative offering to advertising clients.

The Bauer City Network (BCN) is a group of over 40 key radio stations owned by the group which operate in key, major cities across the UK.

Commenting on his new position, John-Paul Hughes said: “I’m really chuffed to be offered this new role and to enjoy the confidence of such a great team. I’m particularly looking forward to working with the heads of Creative across all BCN stations and seeing the results of effective collaboration.

“My new role will involve working closely with the BCN creative and commercial teams to really understand each client and work with them to generate themes, messaging and concepts they can use across all platforms from radio advertising to social media and print to outdoors.

“This cohesive approach should be reflected in everything we do.

“Together, we can help devise the perfect advertising strategy for our clients and be there every step of the way from inception to implementation.

“We live in a very exciting age where the world around us is constantly changing; we at Bauer City Network must ensure our offerings reflect this diverse world and I’m excited to meet the challenges ahead.”

A professional footballer who once played for both Dundee United and Queen of the South since hanging up his football boots Hughes has worked in a number of creative and commercial capacities.

Career highlights have included rolling out sophisticated radio advertising campaigns for top global brands, including FanDuel.com, Celtic FC, Ryanair, Harley Davidson and Hard Rock Café.

Announcing his appointment, Cath Ellington, group commercial director, Bauer City Network, said: “We’ve been thrilled with the fantastic work led by John-Paul since his arrival at Bauer and believe his appointment in this newly-created position is both a key investment and real statement of intent.

“John-Paul’s creative vision and direction are particular strengths and will help the Bauer City Network establish a culture with creative behaviours at the heart of everything it does.

“Already, John-Paul has a proven track record of leading his team at Clyde to outstanding commercial and creative success by implementing a truly creative-led sell across radio, TV, print, outdoor, online and social media advertising campaigns.

“His approach to each client’s brief is individual and holistic resulting in memorable campaigns, such as the highly successful Black Circles ads in 2014.

“His extensive experience in the sector will continue to ensure the commercial opportunities offered by BCN are truly innovative.

“The creation of this role heralds the beginning of an exciting new era for Bauer City Network’s creative teams and I would like to pass on the congratulations from everyone here to John-Paul as he drives forward in his new role.”
