WRITTEN by Alan McHugh, directed by Ian Grieve, starring regular Perth panto dame Barrie Hunter and a cast of local favourites, traditional pantomime, Beauty and the Beast, in Perth Concert Hall, has all the ingredients for a feast of family fun this Christmas!

With roots that travel back to the middle ages, the annual Christmas pantomime is a theatrical event steeped in history and tradition.

Perth Theatre has been producing family pantomimes for almost 80 years.

Now closed for a period of restoration and redevelopment, sister venue, Perth Concert Hall, has stepped in once again to ensure that the show goes on while the 115 year-old venue is transformed.

After refusing to marry the evil Witch Queen, the arrogant Prince Sebastian has been cursed to live as a hideous beast unless he can find a maiden to fall in love with him. Not only that; the Prince’s castle and servants have also been cursed to remain in limbo until the curse is broken.

Our panto dame and her hapless son, along with their best friend, the beautiful Belle, arrive in the village on holiday with nowhere to stay. The Beast’s manservant thinks that Belle might just be the one to break the curse, and invites them to stay.

With evil witches, fairytale princesses, a dopey dame, a startling set, classy costumes, dazzling dances, magnificent music, and laughs a plenty, Beauty and the Beast in Perth Concert Hall from Saturday 12 to Saturday 26 December is the perfect panto night out for all the family.

Panto director, Ian Grieve said: “We’re putting together a great cast of local favourites, talented kids and panto regulars to make sure that, once again, Perth panto is the best in the land!

“We look forward to entertaining the people of Perthshire and beyond with this unmissable family festive tradition.”

Tickets for Beauty and the Beast in Perth Concert Hall from Saturday 12 to Saturday 26 December are on sale now from Perth Concert Hall Box Office on 01738 621031 and online at www.horsecross.co.uk.
