Carmichael at court, Edinburgh, , 9th, November, 2015

PERTH is the place to be over the next two months as it plays host to the biggest and best City of Perth Winter Festival yet – featuring highlights such as a spectacular Christmas Light Switch On with exclusive performance from chart-toppers, Lawson, as well as a Chocolate Festival, St. Andrews Day celebration and a Santa fun run.

The year’s bumper City of Perth Winter Festival programme is expected to attract visitors from all over Scotland and even further afield – as well as once again being a firm favourite with locals from Perth City and the surrounding area.

Organisers have seen the number of festival visitors increase year on year and are anticipating the biggest crowd yet in 2015 as the huge number of high quality of events and attractions planned over the coming weeks enhances its reputation as Scotland’s best winter festival.

Councillor John Kellas, convener of Enterprise & Infrastructure for Perth & Kinross Council, which hosts the City of Perth Winter Festival, said: “This year’s City of Perth Winter Festival is back with a bang and is bigger than ever with a live performance from music sensations, Lawson.

“We believe this year’s programme will rival anything on offer elsewhere in Scotland.

“From St Andrews Day to our Chocolate Festival and special guests Lawson headlining at our Christmas Lights Switch-On weekend, there is truly something for everyone to enjoy, whether that’s food and drink enthusiasts, music fans or families looking for a fun weekend of entertainment.

“We want to welcome people from all over Scotland to visit Perth City and have the opportunity to see all of the wonderful sites and attractions it has to offer, and even look to stay over to make their visit really memorable – and what better time than during our City of Perth Winter Festival.”

Kicking off the exciting programme is Perthshire’s hugely popular Farmers Market on Saturday 7th November. With 40 stalls packed with traditional local produce, it’s the perfect opportunity for people to start stocking their cupboards with Christmas treats.

Following on from the success of last year’s event, Perth Festival of Chocolate will return even bigger and better, on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd November, offering an exclusive chocolate shopping experience to remember. With a variety of fine chocolatiers scheduled to attend, as well as offering workshops, talks and live demos, the festival is set to make every chocolate lover’s dreams come true.

The festive season will then officially be upon us with the exclusive Christmas Light Switch-On taking place on Tay Street on the 21st November. Special guests will include Lawson, 80s pop icons, Billy Ocean and Showaddywaddy, as well as local artists, Paradise Found and Sacha Taylor.

Headline act, Lawson, are fresh back to the UK after touring with Robbie Williams on his Australian tour. They have enjoyed huge hit success in the UK and across the world. The band’s debut album, Chapman Square, reached number three on the UK Albums Chart as well as achieving six UK top 20 hit singles.

A whole range of other activities including street entertainers, a One Direction tribute act, Frozen Tribute Show, Reindeers, Huskies and Santa’s Grotto will also be available to enjoy throughout the course of the day.

To continue the momentum in the countdown to Christmas, the popular Coca-Cola Truck will be returning to Perth on Sunday 22nd November. A great opportunity to get that must have #holidaysarecoming selfie!

The following weekend, Saturday 28th November, the Perth Community Christmas and Craft Market will give Christmas shoppers the perfect chance to view and buy unique festive gifts from local craftmakers and artisans.

The St. Andrews Day celebration will round off November in a truly patriotic style with a festival taking place on November 29th ahead of the official day. The festival will include a Scottish themed market showcasing Perth’s rich food and drink heritage including haggis, venison, oatcakes and whisky as well as lively performances from pipers and highland dancers.

And with Christmas in sight, a Santa fun run has organised to allow runners will take to the streets sporting traditional Santa suits to complete a 2k route through Perth City on Saturday 12th December.

The City of Perth Winter Festival programme will also include a range of other events throughout November and December. For full details on the City of Perth Winter Festival please visit www.perthcity.co.uk or contact 01738 475000.
